Hinduism - Where Is Dakshineshwar?

On the eastern bank of the Hugli River, some four miles north of modern-day Calcutta, there is a temple site.

Although, like other Hindu temples, Dakshineshwar features pictures of most of the pantheon's deities, its major deity is the strong and dangerous goddess Kali.

Dakshineshwar's significance stems from its relationship with Bengali saint Ramakrishna, who stayed there for the most of his life.

The principal image was dedicated in 1855, making it a relatively new location.
