Hinduism - What Is A Deul In Hindu Temple Architecture?

(perhaps a variant of deva, "god") This is the term for the beehive-shaped tower that houses the image of the temple's major deity in the temple architecture of Orissa.

Unlike other regions of northern India, where a sequence of towers (shikharas) progressively lead up to the highest tower, Orissan temples feature a relatively long and low entry porch (jagamohans) and an exceedingly high deul, with the difference in visual forms emphasizing the contrast between the two.
