Hinduism - Who Were The Gahadavala Dynasty?

 (r. 1089–1194) Gahadavala Dynasty is a Northern Indian dynasty whose primary territory was the Gangetic plain's western and central sections.

The Gahadavalas were a short-lived and transitory dynasty that stepped in to fill a political vacuum in the turbulent years after the millennium's turn.

During this time, the Gangetic plain was beset by political unrest and was often attacked by Muslim raiders.

The Gahadavalas overthrew the Rashtrakutas in 1089 and cemented their control over the middle Ganges basin.

The Ghurids, an Afghani Muslim dynasty, overthrew the Gahadavalas in 1194.

Following their defeat, the Ghurid empire absorbed the majority of Gahadavala land.
