Hinduism - Who Is Ganika? Why Is She Dear To Lord Vishnu?

(“harlot”) In Hindu mythology, a character who represents the limitless strength of God's favor and the easiness with which even unconscious devotion may rescue one.

Ganika is a well-known prostitute who pays little heed to religious matters.

Her sole religious deed is to educate her pet parrot to repeat the name of the deity Vishnu, which she does by repeatedly repeating the heavenly word.

Vishnu's servants rescue Ganika from Death's henchmen and transport her to his heavenly kingdom, Vaikuntha, when Ganika dies.
