Hinduism - Who Was Gopal Krishna Gokhale?

(1866–1915) He worked for most of his life alongside his elder contemporary, Mahadev Govind Ranade, as a college professor, legislator, and reformer Hindu.

Unlike Ranade, who was prevented from active political participation due to his status as a judge, Gokhale spent the final fifteen years of his life as a lawmaker.

Thirteen of these years were spent as Bombay's Indian representative to India's highest legislative body, the Imperial Legislative Council.

Gokhale, like Ranade, tried to influence British policy by working inside existing institutions, in this instance the British colonial administration.

Leaders like as Bal Gangadhar Tilak, who urged tougher, even violent resistance to British authority, opposed him because of his willingness to compromise.
