Hinduism - Who Was Janabai?

(about 1350) Female poet and saint associated with the Varkari Panth, a religious order based on the worship of the Hindu deity Vithoba at his temple in Pandharpur, Maharashtra.

Janabai arrived at Pandharpur with her parents when she was seven years old, but she refused to return home with them, claiming that she wanted to be near to the Lord.

Namdev, another Varkari saint, took her in as a servant and welcomed her into his circle of believers (bhakta).

Janabai is known for her religious songs, which are still widely performed today.
