Hinduism - How Were Murals Used In Ancient India?

Mural painting is mentioned often in Sanskrit literature.

These were typical kinds of decoration in both temples and the dwellings of the rich in early medieval periods.

The heat and humidity of the Indian environment have taken their toll on such art, and just a few examples exist today.

The most renowned paintings are found at Buddhist monuments such as Ajanta and Sigiriya in central India and Sri Lanka, respectively.

Themes from daily life are depicted in these paintings.

In the caverns of Ellora, there are also remains of art.

Paintings from the Chola dynasty were recently discovered and are being repaired at Tanjore's Rajrajeshvar temple.

Chola dynasty is another name for the Chola dynasty.
