Hinduism - What Is Vaikasi?

 

Vaikasi is the second month of the Tamil calendar, and corresponds to the northern Indian solar month of Vrishabha (Taurus), which occurs between May and June.

This name is a variation of Baisakh, the lunar calendar's second month.

One apparent indicator of the continued relevance of regional cultural traditions is the survival of multiple different calendars.

The Tamils keep their culture alive by following their ancient calendar.

Tamil is one of India's few regional languages with a long and illustrious literary tradition.

Hinduism - What Is The Mohini Ekadashi?

 

Mohini Ekadashi is a festival celebrated on the eleventh day (ekadashi) of Baisakh (April–May), the bright, waxing half of the lunar month.

The event is devoted to the worship of Vishnu as Rama, his incarnation.

Most Hindu holidays have specific mandated ceremonies, generally requiring fasting (upavasa) and prayer, with specific rewards promised for faithful performance; honoring this festival frees one from the consequences of one's wicked conduct.

Hinduism - What Is Baisakh?

Baisakh is the second month of the lunar year, typically occurring between April and May, according to the lunar calendar used to calculate most Hindu religious festivals. 

• Although this is considered one of the spring months, the weather in northern India is starting to warm up at this time, particularly during the day. 

• Shitalashtami, Baruthani Ekadashi, Parashuram Jayanti, Narasimha Jayanti, Baisakhi, Mohini Ekadashi, and Buddha Purnima are the main Baisakh festivals.
