Hinduism - Who Are The Vishvedevas In Hindu Mythology?

 

Based on the literal meaning of the word ("all the gods"), this name might be interpreted as referring to all gods, or it can refer to a group of deities known as the sons of Vishva, the celestial sage Daksha's daughter.

The number of sons varies across manuscripts and is either 10 or thirteen.

Although the Manu Smrti, one of the most important scriptures in the dharma literature, requires daily gifts to the Vishvedevas, they are especially venerated during memorial services for the deceased known as shraddhas.

They are claimed to have received these daily offerings as a reward for performing exceptionally severe asceticism.

Hinduism - What Is The Parvana Shraddha?

Shraddhas are a unique sort of memorial ceremonies for the departed.

A parvana shraddha may be conducted at many times during the year, such as the new moon, but it is most usually performed during the Fortnight of the Fathers (Pitrpaksha), which occurs during the lunar month of Bhadrapada during the waning moon.

Unlike an ekoddishta shraddha, which summons a specific departed person, the parvana shraddha invokes the paternal father, grandpa, and great-grandfather first, followed by the same ancestors on the mother's side.

Although the father's ancestors are the principal receivers, the procedure is done to bestow benefits on all of these ancestors.
