Paganism & Wicca - Who Are Magi?

Magi is the plural version of the word "magus." 


  • The Magi were once a highly educated class of Medes and Persians who performed magical arts.
  • They adhered to indigenous Iranian spiritual traditions.
  • Their practices and system of beliefs and  ritual predated and were eventually replaced by Zoroastrianism, while the Magi retained some official status. 
  • Up to the Christian period, the Magi existed. 
  • Their fame was such that the term "magic" was derived from their name.
