Hinduism - What Is Ekoddishta?

Literal meaning in Sanskrit - "It's just for one individual."

This term represents a sort of shraddha, or memorial ceremony for the deceased, held for the benefit of a single individual.

During the first year following a person's death, an ekoddishta shraddha may be conducted as a series of sixteen offerings.

These sixteen gifts are usually combined into a single rite performed on the eleventh day after death, the day after the ten-day period of ceremonial impurity (maranashaucha) has ended.
