Hinduism - What Is Karana In Hindu Philosophy?

The word for an instrumental cause, or the reason by which another thing is performed, in Indian philosophy is Karana.

When a potter uses a stick to join two pot halves, the stick is the instrumental cause for the production of the pot, according to the Nyaya philosophical system.

The term karana has a corresponding meaning in Sanskrit grammar; it signifies the word in a phrase that explains how the activity is carried out.
