Hinduism - What Is Patala In Hindu Spirituality And Mythology?

A general term for the subterranean worlds, typically numbered seven to correspond to the seven heavens thought to reside above the visible world.

The Nagas and other nonhuman species inhabit these nether worlds, which are not considered hells but rather planes of existence apart from the visible world.

Hinduism - What Is Notion Of Heavens Or Heaven In Hindu Spirituality?

Apart from the apparent physical domain, Hinduism believes there are many other levels of existence.

The heavens, which are realms of reward, pleasure, and delight, are among the various levels of existence.

As a reward for their previous good actions, beings are born in heaven, and the gods' lives in these realms are generally characterized as lengthy and happy.

Heaven, on the other hand, is not eternal, and when one's karmic merit is depleted and one's time in heaven is over, one must unavoidably descend to take birth in a lesser form.

Heaven is often seen as a diversion from serious religious practice.

Birth in heaven requires the accumulation and expenditure of a tremendous quantity of religious merit earned via previous good works, and hence represents a tremendous drain on one's spiritual resources.

Furthermore, after one is born in paradise, life is so simple and carefree that most individuals have no desire to participate in religious activities.

Heaven is seen as a destination to which humans should not strive for both of these reasons.
