Hinduism - What Is A Goshala?

("cow's dwelling") A goshala is a rest home for elderly, infirm, and unproductive cows in contemporary India, where they may dwell in peace and contentment for the remainder of their lives.

Goshalas are often established and sponsored as religious merit, in order to care for cows that would otherwise be killed or abandoned.

These structures are constructed as a gesture of respect for cattle, which is one of Hindu culture's most common concepts.
