Hinduism - What Does The Sanskrit Term Ishvara Mean? When And Where Is It Used?

Often used at the conclusion of compound names, such as Rameshvar, “the Lord of Rama,” or Mahakaleshvar, “the Lord of Death,” it is primarily an epithet of the deity Shiva.

Ishvara may be part of the name of earthly kings, such as the Chalukya emperor Someshvara (r.1242–1268), with its more broad sense of "lord."
