Hinduism - What Is The Rajasuya Or Rajabhiseka?

Rajasuya is a royal consecration ritual that appears in the Vedas, the oldest and most authoritative Hindu religious books, and is one of the most well-known of the sacrificial ceremonies.

The event is said to have originated in the late Vedic period.

The ceremony itself served to elevate the monarch to semidivine status, and preparations for it may take a year.

The ceremonial killing and offering of animals was an important aspect of the rajasuya sacrifice, as it was with many Vedic rites.

This ceremony has long been out of favor, partially due to the time and effort necessary to prepare for it, and partly due to widespread opposition to animal sacrifices.

The rajabhiseka has taken its position as the coronation ritual.
