Hinduism - Who Is A Udgatr?

 


In the Brahmana literature, a kind of sacrifice priest, one of the later strands in the holy book known as the Vedas.

The Brahmanas primarily served as guides for performing sacrificial ceremonies, which mostly entailed burning gifts in a holy fire, and the care and attention paid to these sacrifices leads to the conclusion that they were the major religious act.

The adhvaryum, the hotr, the udgatr, and the brahman were ritual technologists who performed these ceremonies because they were so intricate.

The sacrificial priest, known as the udgatr, was the one who sang the hymns from the Sama Veda that were utilized in the sacrifice.

Brahmana literature, one of the later strands of the holy text known as the Vedas, mentions a kind of priest.

The Brahmanas primarily served as instructions for performing sacrifice ceremonies, which mostly comprised the burning of gifts in a holy fire.

These procedures were so intricate that they necessitated the use of ritual professionals such as the hotr, adhvaryum, udgatr, and brahman.

The sacrificial priest, known as the hotr, chanted passages from the Rg Veda that were employed in the sacrifice.
