Hinduism - What Is The Naladiyar?

Along with its predecessor, the Tirukkural, it is one of the most significant works of early Tamil literature.

The Naladiyar is a four-hundred-verse compilation from the fifth or sixth centuries.

The lyrics were penned by a group of Jain monks who sought refuge with a devout king during a famine and were primarily concerned with moral and ethical living.

Each monk composed a sonnet of thanks.

Despite its sectarian origins, the Naladiyar has become a cultural property of Tamils of all religious denominations, with many of the passages becoming proverbial sayings.
