Paganism & Wicca - What Does Jinx Mean?

It's still common in the West to hear People beg, "Don't jinx me!"

Although the idea of a jinx impeding success persists, the term has gained widespread acceptance, and few people associate it with occultism.

The word "jinx" comes from the Greek word "iynx," which refers to a bird connected with spellcraft. (Iynx the animal.)

Jinx has become synonymous with "hex" in the southern United States.

Jinx is always negative, unlike most other kinds of magic. A good jinx, or even a neutral jinx, does not exist.

• Jinx is a word that refers to a malevolent spell that has a binding effect and prevents success, triumph, or achievement: “She cast a jinx on me.”

• Jinx may also be used as a verb to describe the act of casting a jinx: “I'll jinx you!”

• Jinx may also be used as an adjective to describe a team that never wins or a project that never gets finished.
