Hinduism - Who Was Swami Vivekananda?

Swami Vivekananda (Narendranath Datta, 1863–1902).

The first Hindu missionary to the West and a well-known follower of Bengali mystic Ramakrishna.

Narendranath had a solid education and had planned to become a lawyer; when he first met Ramakrishna, he was cautious and distrustful, but over the course of a year, he was changed.

After Ramakrishna's death, he spent many years wandering around India, eventually realizing that religious life needed to serve both India's material and spiritual problems.

Vivekananda is most known for his speech to the First World Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893, in which he introduced Hinduism—in its logical, Vedantic form—to his Western audience for the first time.

He spoke throughout America and England for the following four years before returning to India to great acclaim.

He spent the remainder of his brief life promoting the Ramakrishna Mission, a religious organization dedicated to both social and religious improvement.

For more information, see Christopher Isherwood's Ramakrishna and His Disciples, 1965; Swami Vivekananda's Swami Vivekananda's Complete Works, 1970; and George M. Williams' "Swami Vivekananda" and "The Ramakrishna Movement: A Study in Religious Change," both in Robert D. Baird's Religion in Modern India, 1998.

11 indicators that you may be a Mystic

The below are the top 11 indicators that you may be a Mystic as :

  1. You are not a materialistic person.
  2. You are not obligated to obey societal standards.
  3. You'd rather be isolated.
  4. You have the ability to see straight through people.
  5. You have no apprehensions about the future.
  6. You aren't a materialistic person. You don't believe in splurging on material goods like designer clothes, high-end automobiles, large apartments, or the most up-to-date gadgets. People who march about with materialistic objects, you believe, are demonstrating how superficial they can be.
  7. You are not obligated to obey societal standards. You don't need anyone's approval to be who you are. You look for affirmation inside yourself rather than following in the footsteps of others to blend in.
  8. You'd rather be isolated. You're always trying to get a better understanding of life and the people around you. You appreciate your alone time and it helps you to focus on what is going on both inside and outside of you.
  9. You have the ability to see straight through people. If you're meeting someone for the first time and conversing with them, they can embellish stories about themselves.
  10. You will immediately know this and avoid being around those people.
  11. You have no apprehensions about the future. Mystics see transformation as a chance to learn new things and expand their horizons. They don't dread the future; instead, they welcome transition and keep going forward.

Mystics claim that gaining insight into human mysteries is possible. They usually agree that we are both tied to nature and that we must protect everything around us in order to live. If one part of the connection is disrupted, the rest of the connections will suffer as well.
