Hinduism - What Are Jovial Or Relationships That Are A Joke In A Hindu Family?

Within a single generation of a traditional Hindu joint family, the forms of relationships vary dramatically depending on family status, notably among the family's older brothers and their spouses.

The eldest brother is frequently presented as a solemn and somber authoritative figure toward whom everyone must treat with reverence as the family's future leader.

The wife of the oldest brother is treated with admiration, yet she is said to have a "joking connection" with her husband's younger siblings, as do all women with their husband's younger brothers.

Women are required to act decorously among higher-status relatives, but joking relationships allow a lot more room for expression.

These are often described as being lots of banter and informal conversation that would not be proper with someone of greater position.
