Hinduism And Hindu Theology - Who Was Andhaka?

Andhaka is a word that means "blind."

  • A monster created from the darkness that emerges when the goddess Parvati playsfully covers her husband Shiva's eyes with her hands, according to Hindu legend.
    • Because he emerges from the abyss, Shiva gives him the name Andhaka.
    • Despite numerous remonstrances that contacting another man's wife is inappropriate, Andhaka lusts for Parvati and pursues her.
    • He eventually makes it to Shiva's abode on Mount Kailas, where he is killed by the deity.
