Hinduism - What Is Bhadrasana?

Bhadrasana means "good stance" or Gracious Pose in Sanskrit.

This is one of the sitting positions (asana) mentioned in comments to the Yoga Sutras in yoga practice.

  • In this posture, the legs are crossed and the feet are tucked under the thighs, forming a hollow around the scrotum with the crossed heels.
  • Because the cupped hands are put over the hollow created by the heels, concealing the private parts, this is referred to as the "decent posture."
  • This is a popular position in Hindu iconography in which representations of deities are shown.
