Hinduism - What Is Dandaniti?

 


 ("use the stick to govern") The maintenance of social order through imposing retribution on evildoers is referred to as dandaniti in dharma literature, or works on religious obligation (dharma). 

In traditional Indian beliefs of monarchy, the king's function and responsibility was to govern via punishment, since normal social life would be impossible without it.
