Hinduism - What Is Jivacchraddha?

"Shraddha for a live [person]" is Jivacchraddha.

This is a specific sort of shraddha, or memorial ceremony for the deceased, but it is done for someone who is still alive.

Many times, a person conducts the Jivacchraddha for himself if he has no sons to carry on the tradition or if he believes the ceremony will not be carried out correctly after his death.

The person executing this ritual creates a miniature figure of holy kusha grass to symbolize the individual for whom the shraddha is being conducted, and then performs the standard shraddha ceremony.
