(frightening) In
contrast to their beneficent (saumya) manifestations, this term is used to
refer to Hindu deities in their dreadful, terrifying, and strong forms.
This difference is especially important when it comes to the
deity Shiva and the Goddess's many forms, since both may appear in either form,
and followers (bhakta) can worship either.
