Hinduism - Who Is Jatayu In Hindu Mythology?

In the Ramayana, the older of the two major Indian epics, there is a righteous vulture named Jatayu.

When Ravana kidnaps Rama's wife Sita and takes her away on Ravana's aerial chariot, Jatayu makes a heroic attempt to save her.

Jatayu's wings were chopped off during his fight with Ravana, and the impact of his subsequent fall left him near death.

He notifies Rama and Rama's brother Lakshmana of what has transpired with his last breaths, and names Ravana as Sita's abductor.

Despite the fact that Jatayu fails to save Sita, he is vital to the epic's storyline because he provides Rama with the knowledge he needs to begin hunting for her.
