Ramnagar

Fortified city in Uttar Pradesh, situated south of and across the Ganges from the holy city of Benares.

The Maharajas of Benares erected their fort on this spot because it was relatively simple to defend, and they still reside there, despite the fact that they no longer rule.

Ramnagar is known for hosting the world's oldest and most traditional Ram Lila, a month-long dramatization of the epic Ramayana.

The royal family continues to play a key symbolic role in the Ram Lila production, in addition to supporting it and paying its expenditures.

Anuradha Kapur's Actors, Pilgrims, Kings, and Gods, published in 1990, is a good source of knowledge.
