(7th century) Tamil
poet who wrote the Manimegalai, a piece that seems to be a successor to the
previous poetry "The Jeweled Anklet" (Shilappadigaram).
Sattan's narrative follows Manimegalai, a young lady who was
wooed by the local prince but later became a Buddhist nun.
Despite the story's evident slant in favor of Buddhists, the
Manimegalai features several arguments with individuals from other religious
traditions, providing a well-rounded, though somewhat biased, picture of
contemporary religious life.
