(“vehicle”) A term having distinct particular meanings in different situations, a com mon trait in the Sanskrit language.
It may refer to a god's vehicles, either mythically, since
each deity has an animal considered to be his or her vehicle, or in a literal
sense, such as the cart used to transport them in procession, or to the human
person who "carries" them via the process of being possessed.
The term vimana is used in architecture to refer to the section of the temple that "carries" the god, i.e. the sanctuary as a whole.
