Paganism & Wicca - Who Is A Heathen?

Heathen is an Anglo-Saxon term that literally meaning "heath inhabitant."

  • The heath is the territory outside of the village.
  • After Christianity, individuals who wanted to keep traditional customs moved to the heath, thus the name.

It became synonymous with the term "Pagan," often with the connotation of a harsh, uneducated barbarian.

  • Neo-Pagans who follow Northern European traditions have regained the term. It is now proudly utilized.
  • Asatru is another name for Asatru.
  • Hechiceria is a Spanish word that means "witchcraft" or "magic." It also means "the craft."
