Hinduism And Hindu Theology - What Is Antaryaga?

Antaryaga is a word that means "interior sacrifice." Antaryaga refers to the internalization of devotion in Hindu religion, particularly in the hidden ceremonial practice known as tantra.

  • Worship based on mental activities replaces worship based on outward actions in this phase.
  • This is a later stage in the spiritual journey of the initiate, and it is only undertaken after the novice has mastered the outward forms of worship.
  • Internalization gets more subtle and complex over time.
  • This stage also shows that the initiate has acquired religious capabilities to the point where external things are no longer required.
