Pagan Religions - Who Is ANAHITA?

A Persian Goddess associated with the rivers that provide food for the people.

Her worship included Cappadocia, Armenia, Lydia, and Pontus.

  • Sacred prostitution was carried out by the temple attendants known as hierodouloi as part of her dedication.
  • In Lydia, Anahita was connected to Cybele and Artemis.

  • Artemis Mater or Artemis is in this incarnation, known as Anahita, or Persian Artemis.
  • Taurobolium, or bull sacrifice, was a component of her faith, and the bull was her sacred animal.

  • "The spotless" is how Anahita is translated in archaic tongue.
