Hinduism - Who Is Bhimashankar?

Bhimashankar (Bhima's Shiva) is a Hindu god.

One of the twelve jyotirlingas, a collection of sacred places (tirthas) dedicated to the Hindu deity Shiva.

  • Both the location and the presiding god are known as Bhimashankar.
  • It is named after the source of the Bhima River, which is situated in Maharashtra's Pune district.

Bhimashankar, unlike many of the other jyotirlingas, receives little year-round attention due to its remote location and inaccessibility.

  • The Shivaratri celebration, which typically takes place in February or March, attracts the most pilgrims.
