Animals were regarded as great creatures in many ancient faiths if they displayed exceptional power, intellect, or cunning.
They eventually became associated with the gods and gained holiness.
- They were revered and honored by the gods.
- In specifically devoted temples, prayers were offered to them.
- The bull, Apis, the cat, the snake, the crocodile, and certain birds, such as the ibis and the bennu, were among these holy creatures.
- The Egyptians regarded them with respect.
- The gods showed their animal embodiment by having animals as companions, despite their human appearance.
- Zoolatry is the worship of animals.
