Hinduism - Who Is Dantavaktra?

Dantavaktra is an asura or demon king who is the reincarnation of Vijaya, one of the deity Vishnu's gatekeepers, in the Mahabharata, the later of the two major Hindu epics.

Vijaya has been cursed to be reincarnated as an asura three times, each time being slain by Vishnu.

Vijaya had previously taken the forms of Hiranyakashipu, who was slain by the deity Vishnu's Man-Lion avatar, and Kumbhakarna, who was killed by Vishnu's Rama avatar.

The curse is broken when Krishna kills Dantavaktra, and Vijaya returns to his proper position.
