Hinduism - What Is A Varada Hasta?

A hand gesture (hasta) used in Indian dance, sculpture, and ritual in which the left hand is held with the fingers pointing downward and the palm exposed to the observer, with the fingers completely extended or slightly curled.

The motion is designed to indicate beneficence and charity, and the term varada means "boon-granting."

Varaha Avatar The deity Vishnu's third avatar or manifestation, in the shape of a pig.

See the Boar avatar for further information.
