Hinduism - Who Was Jiddu Krishnamurti?

Jiddu Krishnamurti (1895–1986) Modern Indian thinker whose teachings emphasized the need of critical self-awareness in achieving personal enlightenment.

His lessons were based on his own life experiences.

Annie Besant, one of the founders of the Theosophical Society, declared him to be an incarnation of the future Buddha Maitreya when he was fourteen years old.

He eventually refuted these allegations, and for the remainder of his life, he emphasized the need of questioning and scrutinizing all authority, including his own.

He spent most of his time in Europe and the United States, where his publications and talks were most popular.

Pupul Jayakar's Krishnamurti: A Biography, published in 1986, has further facts.
