Hinduism - Where Is Girnar In India?

Girnar is a Sacred location (tirtha) located on a hill outside of Junagadh, Gujarat.

Girnar has been a sacred location for at least 2,000 years and is still revered by a number of religious sects.

The top of the hill is a popular pilgrimage place for Jains, with a cluster of Jain temples going back to the twelfth century.

The Brahmachari Sanyasis (Brahmacharin) maintain an ashram there, and the top is supposed to feature a set of footprints left by Dattatreya, a renowned legendary character who is regarded a partial manifestation of the deity Vishnu and a model for asceticism.

On Kartik Purnima, the full moon in the lunar month of Kartik (October–November), a massive Hindu ascetic assembly takes place in Girnar.
