Ramanand Sagar

Director of the Ramayana's TV presentation, which aired in the late 1980s.

Despite production quality issues, the episodes were a huge hit and ran every Sunday morning for over a year.

(Undoubtedly, some of these issues stemmed from the difficulty of keeping the immediacy of traditional storytelling's oral experience in the contemporary medium of television.) Sagar turned his focus to other mythological television serials in the mid-1990s, including a lengthy series on the life of the deity Krishna.
