Paganism & Wicca - What Is Allure?

Allure is a term that now implies "enticing" or "seductive" and is often used to describe attractive ladies.

Should you feel flattered if someone says you attractive?

Maybe.

The word "allure" was originally used to indicate anything scary and bad in Middle English.

It comes from the same root as lure and means "bait" or "hunting decoy."

  • Allure was originally characterized as the ability of women to entrap men by their magical sensual abilities.
  • Allure is still defined as “to captivate by charm or attraction” in the dictionary.
  • Although charm is generally associated with a charming demeanor, it was originally thought to be equivalent with "spell."
