Ardha Kumbha Mela (Half Kumbha Mela) is a religious festival that takes place in the run-up to the Kumbha Mela.
- The Kumbha Mela is a massive religious event that includes snana (divine bathing) in holy rivers.
- Haridwar, Allahabad, Ujjain, and Nasik are the four holy places (tirthas) where it is commemorated.
- It happens every twelve years or so, depending on the location of Jupiter in the zodiac.
Six years after the main (purna) Kumbha Mela, when Jupiter has progressed halfway around the zodiac toward the next full Kumbha Mela, the Ardha Kumbha Mela is held.
- It is mostly seen in Allahabad and Haridwar, indicating the significance of these two cities.
Despite the fact that the complete Kumbha Mela is considered more auspicious and attracts a considerably bigger crowd, the Ardha Kumbha Mela nevertheless draws millions of people.
