Hinduism - What Is A Bhogamandapa?

Bhogamandapa means "food pavilion" in Sanskrit.

The furthest entry hall is designed in the same manner as Orissa's biggest temples.

  • The word bhogamandapa refers to the place where the food given to Jagannath as prasad ("favor") is prepared at the Jagannath temple in Puri.

The customary prohibitions on commensality are lifted in Jagannath's temple, which is unique.

  • Instead of being separated by caste, everyone eats together, symbolizing Jagannath's ultimate dominion over all creatures.
  • The bhogamandapa is all the more significant because of the importance of this specific ritual.
