Hinduism - What Is The Significance Of The Bilva Tree?

Bilva is the tree of the wood-apple (Aegle marmelos).

Although this tree is renowned for its wonderful fruit, it is its leaves that have the most religious significance.

  • These are utilized in Shiva worship and are typically put on the god's image or linga as a sacrifice (pillar-shaped symbol).
  • These leaves are said to be more valuable to him than any other gift.
  • This tree is also known as the bel in daily English.
