Hinduism - What Is Gandhi Jayanti? When Is It Celebrated?

Gandhi Jayanti is an Indian national holiday that commemorates Mohandas Gandhi's birth on October 2.

This commemoration is one of the few that is commemorated according to the common era calendar, rather than the lunar calendar that is used to define most Hindu festivals, maybe because Gandhi is a recent figure or because the occasion is a national holiday.
