Hinduism - Why Is Mangalvar Or Tuesday Considered Inauspicious By Hindus?

Tuesday (Mangalvar).

The planet Mars is in charge of the third day of the week (Mangal).

Because of its red tint (which resembles blood) and its connotations with conflict and turmoil, the planet Mars is considered unlucky.

Tuesday is commonly regarded as an unfortunate day, and many people avoid participating in particular activities on this day.

Unless absolutely necessary, travel is strongly discouraged.

Cutting one's hair and beard is likewise frowned upon, and barbers in parts of northern India take Tuesday off.

Many people practice rituals of protection, such as worshiping powerful protective deities like Hanuman—who is near enough to human beings to understand their troubles yet divine enough to defend them—to counteract the day's potential inauspiciousness.

The literal meaning of Tuesday is the "auspicious" (mangal) day, which is ironic.

Giving it this euphemistic name may just be a little of reverse magic; if it's called the fortunate day, it could really be.
